Matt Cheek
Matt Cheek is a committed leader who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Nashville Teacher Residency (NTR). With a strong passion for education and a deep desire to make systems change, Matt primarily focuses on managing the organization and ensuring the quality of the residency program through strategic planning, vision-setting, organizational management, operations, external partnerships, and fundraising. He brings creativity and joy to his work, rallying a diverse coalition of supporters to drive positive change in teacher preparation.
Matt began his career as a Teach for America Corps Member in Lake City, South Carolina, where he taught middle school social studies. He later moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he worked as a Gifted and Talented Instructional Coach for Knox County Schools, supporting teachers in meeting the needs of gifted students. During this time, Matt was a vocal advocate for increasing access to gifted programming for historically marginalized students as part of his larger commitment to systemic change in education.
Outside of NTR, Matt also serves as the Board Chair for the Teach for America Nashville-Chattanooga Alumni Board, further demonstrating his dedication to driving positive change in the educational landscape.
Matt holds a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Clemson University and a Masters in Educational Administration and Leadership from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. His unwavering commitment to educational excellence, equity, and systemic change make him a respected leader in the field of education, contributing to the success of NTR and the Nashville community.
