Ben Schumacher
Ben is an education executive with 17 years of experience across public, private, and non-profit sectors. From 2016-2022, Ben served as Executive Director of Teach For America Nashville-Chattanooga where he led the organization to be the top-rated Teacher Preparation Program in Tennessee as evaluated by the State Board of Education from 2016-2021, managed approximately 200 staff and corps members, raised $25M+ to support the program, and grew the region’s network by 44% to 1,100+. Outside of TFA, Ben has served as the Head of Partnerships and Sales for an edtech startup that created the world’s first spatial learning platform in virtual reality for STEM, a middle school science teacher (his favorite all-time role!) and science department chair, a summer School Director, and an independent consultant focused on domains such as growth strategy, talent strategy, external and public affairs, executive onboarding and coaching, education programming and partnerships, and college and graduate school admissions. Ben started his career as a strategy and operations consultant at Deloitte Consulting and McKinsey & Company.
Ben earned his MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School, his Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, and is only a few classes shy of a Masters in Education from Lipscomb University (some day, he’ll finish it out!). In addition to serving on PIVOT’s founding board, Ben has served on the board of Valor Collegiate Academies for 7 years. Ben lives with wife and two young boys in East Nashville and is excited to be part of PIVOT’s vital work!
